Coral inspired Medium Glass Bowl

These pretty glass bowls are inspired by coral (actually when I first made them I has been looking in rock pools and loved the shape of the seaweed but when I first showed them, everyone said it looks like coral, so I went and looked and decided they were right). The design is created using blended and layered glass powders which are fired on to clear glass. That flat piece is suspended on a ceramic ring and heated slowly in the kiln to allow the glass to stretch through the hole to create the bowl shape. The excess glass from the rim is cut off and the edge smoothed with a grinder before sandblasting. It looks lovely on the wee stand which allows it to be set at a jaunty angle to show off the colours in the light.
